waiter, n.  1, one who stays, as if expecting something; 2, an attendant; especially, one who serves at table; 3, a serving tray for dishes; dumb-waiter, a kind on small hoist or elevator for conveying food dishes, etc., from one part of a house to another.        from The Winston Dictionary - Advanced Edition.

Waiter - A word one is likely to hear or read quite often when discussing Boxsters. But don't be fooled. The definition that is being referred to is not that of a servant - although the way owners slave over their cars one wonders! Actually, it is the first definition that is being used. This is especially true in the case of the Boxster S. With the Boxster S, one has to first wait for the car to be built and then, wait still more while it gets delivered. There are times some of us may feel like we fall into the realm of the last definition.

Waiters need something to do. One thing to do is to read the Boxster Board on a daily basis. I also chose to build the Porsche Boxster 1/10 scale radio control racing car. I had my grandson help build it. He was quite bored. Although he thoroughly enjoys being able to drive it. It has the advantage that one can do donuts, spins and occasionally crash without too much concern.

It took about 4 days to go from a box of parts to completed. I even painted it Black Metallic to ease the pain of waiting. I purchased my kit from Sheldon's Hobbies in San Jose, CA. They have some of the best prices and are a major mail-order hobby store.

Other things that can be done include ordering accessories before the car actually arrives. In preparation of the arrival of my car I ordered clear side markers and bumper plugs from the parts department at Suncoast Porsche. I also ordered a hard top hoist from Sto' Away which just arrived (now, if I only had a garage to put it in.) Still under debate is whether or not to order a Tech-EFX Boomerang to help protect  the underside of the front bumper.

I recently purchased a California Car Duster at Costco. It was a great deal at only $11.99 and included the Mini Duster and the carry bag. Tough to beat since most places sell the duster by itself for $19.98. At the same time I picked up a digital tire pressure gauge.

Another item that can be obtained early is the Boxster Owners Manual. The manual can be purchased from your dealer or ordered from My Porsche. It's a good investment for under $25.00.

If you are into video games then NEED FOR SPEED: PORSCHE UNLEASHED by Electronic Arts may be a good acquisition. I picked up my copy from Costco for $39.00. It also came with a $10.00 rebate coupon. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I purchased a spoiler sticker from Michael Lansky while at TBHL III in Las Vegas.
